Consumer Unit Installations & Upgrades
Fuse boards with Fuse wire or no RCD protection can be upgraded to current regulations with a replacement fuse board from £395.00 +VAT
Fuse boards are the 1st point of protection in your installation, and with rewireable fuses now being obsolete, the introduction of MCB’s and more recently(BS7671 :2008) 17th edition wiring regulations, all consumer units in the UK must have RCD protection to all cables embedded in walls, except for high integrity circuits such as burglar or smoke alarms.
The most recognisable way of arranging this is by a dual RCD unit, with the circuits being arranged in such a way, the power will always be present in one area if either RCD trips outs. RBBO’s can also be used, by individually protecting circuits, with RCD, and overload protection.
All consumer unit installs comprise upgrading of bonding to gas and water and an extensive test and inspection of all existing circuits, followed by issuing of certificates, a report to building control, who then send a letter of compliance to the property.
Commercial situations vary slightly, with the use of 3 phase installations more prominent, which are generally for more heavy duty installations, such as
factories and office blocks, where the loads of lifts and heavy machinery can be spread across the 3 phases.
RCD use is lessened in these situations as
cable can be run in mechanical protection such as earthed steel trunking or conduits, however it will still be used where sockets are reasonably expected
to supply outdoors equipment.
NICEIC Approved Contractor
NICEIC has been assessing the technical competence of electricians for over 50 years. Our aim is to protect everyone who uses
electricity from unsafe electrical installations in their homes, places of work and elsewhere. To achieve this, we maintain a register of qualified, competent
electricians.
We look at a representative sample of the contractor’s work, their premises, documentation, equipment, and the competence of their key supervisory staff.
Once contractors become registered with NICEIC, they are re-assessed on a regular basis to ensure high standards.
